Aren’t they lovely! Doesn’t it make you long to read them? I’ve read some but not all of these. They don’t make ’em like that anymore, that’s for sure.
Why oh why did Virago abandon these covers for the minimalist style they churn out today? These just make you want to buy them, even if you don’t get round to reading them…for a while.
Those green spines were so easy to look out for. I was in our SHBS the other day chatting to the owner and she said that she hardly ever sees a Virago book now. In fact, she asked me if they were still going! That’s what happens when you abandon a recognised image. You might as well change Marmite jars.
Just come across these again, whilst trying to do something similar. They’re wonderful! Especially intrigued by Spinster, not an author I’ve come across.
